San Diego to San Luis Obispo – one more dance
Recently I had 24 hours for a road trip from San Diego to San Luis Obispo and back again. The trip wasn’t for business or for pleasure, but fell into that space where there is no heading or category. That space where there are no words to accurately describe the nature and necessity that entailed a gathering of people from near and far. That space where your only agenda is to be available, present and quiet.
Quiet..until it wasn’t.
Quiet until there was laughter, tears, hugs, music and memories.
I was thankful to be a part of this bittersweet celebration. Where stories were told, memories shared, and love and support filled the room and infused every space. We all took a part of it with us as we left the next day, heading back to where we came from.
Hopefully the place we returned to was slightly different than how we left it. And from what I learned about this young life, and this family that continues on – one breath at a time – is to be present.
Plans are good, I’m a planner, usually. But I was reminded to be present in the moment. So I took a slight detour on the way home… and was treated to the strange …
…and the beautiful.
The water was remarkably clear and bright and blue on the drive home that day.
The music was just a bit louder to… thanks to Spotify, Boston, Foreigner and U2.
